Friday

  • Ben has taken to asking "What happens if I don't?" or "What will my punishment be?" lately. Relaying this to my brother yesterday he said: "We may have too many lawyers in the family." I am starting to wonder if we may get one more.
  • We were watching old clips of the kids yesterday and I was surprised to remember that Ben was just starting to talk when he was Kyri's age. We thought he was brilliant because he knew the alphabet and could count. Not that he wasn't. But K can do these things as well as argue about what to wear and remind you of what you need to get at the store.
  • My first college roommate had a papasan chair that I inherited years later when she got married. I bought this great replacement cushion this week. The other was about 20 years old and showing its wear.
  • I love Etsy. I wish it had been around when I was making candles. I am buying slipcovers for the rocking chair and stool Mike bought for me at Goodwill when Ben was born. They will match the papasan and leather couch. I can't imagine what it will be like to have matching furniture.
  • As we come up on Sunday's holiday, I'm thankful for this post which articulated some of my own thoughts on Mother's Day. I honor my mom on this day rather than the Shrine of Motherhood.
  • I enjoyed Open a lot. It was a well-written autobiography and Andre Agassi reminded me how grateful I am that my parents didn't seek in me the fulfillment of their personal dreams and force me into anything. And I finally "get" why he ended up with Steffi Graf.
  • I donated all of my maternity clothes to our local CareNet last week. I'm trying not to be superstitious. That phase of my life is over. Right, God?

Happy Mother's Day my darling friend. What a wonderful mother you are and your children reflect the love you have given them.
