Half birthday

Kyrie is 3 and A HALF today. We don't really celebrate half birthdays but because all three of our treasures were born relatively close to Christmas (November, December, January) they all end up desperately needing new toys closer to their half birthdays than their birthdays. So Kyrie just received a new stencil book I'd put aside for her awhile back. Her other presents around this time will include some new things for her new room, courtesy of her Aunt Alicia. I'm also hoping for some garage sale finds...Outdoor toys for the new house.

Kyri continues to amuse us. I've read that middle children tend to be most independent and that is certainly true of this girl. She is quickly becoming the most adventurous of our kids.

She recently packed her suitcase and came and told me she was going to "fly away." (Ben had recently asked where/what was meant by the song "I'll Fly Away" and expressed severe concern that he'd been singing about death. Kyri listened to the conversation and apparently wasn't as disturbed.)

"Where are you going to fly away to?"

"JESUS," she replied, with drama. (She is VERY GOOD at drama of all sorts.)

"Could you go later and stay with me for awhile?"

"Ok," she replied. But her bag is still packed.

She also likes to tell me she is going to be getting married and having a baby. And Susan (my midwife with Ev) will "get the baby out." Mike tells her she can't get married. Ben tells her she can, IF she will move to Tumwater (the next town over) where he can still see her.

Both she and Ben are terrified of swimming. But recently she decided swimming lessons would be worth it if she could wear her swimsuit. She has settled on taking them this summer. I'm delighted. I want both kids to learn but I don't want to pay for lessons if they won't get in the water.

She promises to keep our lives interesting and we are grateful for her.

I always remember how old Kyri is (and Daphne) because they were conveniently born so close to a Memorable Occasion. The others, I entirely forget. Maybe if I could learn the distances between Kyri and Ben (and Daphne, Stuart, and Addie) I could remember.

I do still read you regularly. I'm just a bad commenter. And you aren't at all a hyper fundamentalist. You think girls can go to college, after all!

Wish I could squeeze that girl!
