Yesterday I received news that the security system that housed my student loan info (long paid off) had been hacked and my name, SSN, and DOB had been stolen. Fortunately no bank or credit card information was taken and all of those accounts used for my loan have been closed anyway.
As a result I've been given a free one-year subscription to a credit monitoring agency and encouraged to consider putting a security freeze on my credit accounts. I just checked my credit report a month ago and saw nothing suspicious. Now I'm wondering if I check it again so soon or just give my loan officer a heads up.
You have to just laugh at the timing....Just as we're making an offer on a house.
