Twins, Twins, Twins

No, we are expecting just one, but I had three friends deliver twins in the last week. Claire and Julia were born to Peter and Laura last Friday (no pic), and Caedmon and Braedon were born to Art and Mary also last Friday (left) and Graham and Maya (above) were born to Anna and Jeff on Monday. Babies are all doing well.... Laura and Anna are having rough recoveries and still in the hospital. Keep them in your prayers. Interestingly, they both had OB-Gyns who insisted on c-section for twins. Mary delivered naturally with a midwife and went home Sunday. And her guys were bigger! But she was the only mom who had previous deliveries too.

Not everyone knows three sets of twins born in the same week! And one of each kind of set, I notice.

Is it usual, or just dependent on your doctor, to have an automatic section for twins? I don't know that I've heard of that, but I don't know many twins, either.

From what I understand it is common procedure to do a c-section for twins but still depends on your doctor. Some are less likely to do surgery; others are better about listening to the patient. I don't know about Laura, but Anna's doctor planned to do a c-section with no other reason than twins. -rlr

Wow! I thought it was amazing that we knew of 5 babies born in the last week, but I think three sets of twins tops that!

I had full term twins. We (including Dr.) were planning on natural delivery until kids got 'stuck' in a position that would not let either come out. After trying to turn them, it was determined that C-section was necessary. Next pregnancy my Dr. let me know that he believed in "Once a C-section, ALWAYS a C-section." This was at a time when many were trying to deliver naturally after having had c-sections. My Dr. had the experience of being the on call Dr. for another who believed in that practice, and one patient had her previous incision tear. Almost lost both. He said never again.

I think this is how most Drs. look at it today with all the lawsuits and stuff. Better to err on the side of safety if there are any unusual situations, including twin pregnance.
