Today in Brief

from Ben's mom

We had a baby appointment today. I love it that my husband takes time off to come along. He helps me remember things and he keeps Ben in check. Today Ben thought we should leave several times before it was over. I really like my midwife, but I hate that she refers to M as my "partner." He is my husband, which is a much more elevated (and probably difficult) position to hold than "partner."

I have friends planning a trip to NYC. They want to bus up from VA in July and everybody's too busy to find lodging so I volunteered to help. It's called "living vicariously" (Websters: "experienced or realized through imaginative or sympathetic participation in the experience of another").

It is a pleasant day which is nice because our a/c either isn't a/c (maybe we just have the control box but no system perhaps?) or it isn't very effective. Fortunately, Virginia hasn't worn off yet and I didn't think it was so bad. However, Ben thought it made sleeping before midnight impossible.

I think you should tell her you would prefer if she called M your "husband". It doesn't hurt to say that.

Yes, we've been living without AC, even through the very hot heat waves. At least now it's raining and we wouldn't want it anyway.

Oo. Sounds like you might just have an attic fan (which is all we have). Living in TX didn't help me much. Corvallis hit 105 degrees and without air I found it to be *miserable*. Thankfully the temperature is dropping! Yay for clouds!

Glad to hear everything is going well in baby department.

I'm with Ben....just can't seem to go to bed when it's this hot, knowing that sleep is impossible anyway...

I just got back from Portland where I welcomed Ben's Opa (Great Grandpa) home from a trip to Missouri, where he had a wonderful time visiting his sister and her family.

And it's nearing midnight so I'm heading for bed.

Have your VA NYC bound friends thought about the train? I liked that and would do it again in a heartbeat...also, it was cheaper than the bus (at least in 2002).

Ah but the Chinese bus from Chinatown DC to Chinatown NYC is something like $15 and they've done it before. It presents a great multicultural experience too. -rlr

Thanks for living vicariously. We've got reservations to the hostel you recommended and I can't wait to find out what it's going to be like sharing a room with at least 6 strangers...
