One Child
Yesterday Ben and Kyrie had science at the Nature Center. It was a balmy 75 degrees and Everleigh and I went for a walk at the nature center. I took loads of beautiful pictures on my phone and can't yet figure out how to get them from Instagram to this blog since I didn't upload them to Facebook. (And trying to do that after the fact hasn't worked.)
But these are the best anyway. Ev picked the dandelion and then I told her to blow. She was pretty enthralled.
My 90 minutes alone with Everleigh every other week has really brought home how important one-on-one time with each child is. Kyrie loves to shop so she and I go out grocery shopping together alone frequently. Ben and I have had more time alone together by virtue of his firstborn status and being older and staying up later, etc.... These times with Ev are rare. One of the downsides to homeschooling (often perpetuated by large families) is that the middle and youngest get less focused time with their parents. I know one large homeschooling family who did this well, regularly scheduling times with their many children one-on-one with each parent. But even with three it is difficult.
These times with Ev have been wonderful. She is a "chatterbox" and I'm amazed at what comes out of her mouth as we walk. I begin to get glimpses of her interests. I'm excited to watch her grow and I'm looking forward to making more and more opportunities for both Mike and I to get to know our children as individuals and keep in touch with their thoughts and inclinations as they grow.

So true! Some kids probably need more time from us than others but all kids need some quality one on one time from parents. I have seen a dramatic change in Clara's heart attitudes and overall behavior now that she is getting more of me. Hope I can keep it up with four kids. Have to be honest that this will stretch me thin. :)
That's a really telling picture of Evie at the top. You really captured her joy and curiousity with that dandelion. It's a great picture!! Thanks for sharing it!
