I thought this list of age-appropriate chores was helpful. Even if we deviate a little, it is good for me to be reminded that as hard as it is to teach chores in the initial phase (and much easier to do them yourself) that teaching these things are part of my parental responsibility. And it will pay off in the end. Ben empties part of the dishwasher, makes his bed, and takes out trash and I find it nice to move these things off my to-do and on to someone else's.
And I loved this list because it was a reminder that Kyri is, in practical skills, well beyond her not-quite-4 biological age. I recently read a list of emotional age markers and was surprised to find that the things I've been dealing with in the last couple of months were solidly in the AGE 4 camp. The list was helpful, especially because 5 looks a whole lot easier.

OK, so where is this list of emotional age markers? O:-)
Ah, that.... From a book called "She's Gonna Blow" by Julie Barnhill. I think it is in the appendix. I'll be writing on it very soon.
When my godson and his mom lived with me, I remember having to stop myself from re-making the bed.
Thinking of it as one more thing off the list is a good way to deal with it.
