The House

Inspection went well and our to-do list was accepted. Now we are on to the appraisal. Closing is set for 5/21 but could move to the 24th. Meanwhile, I've spent too much time on the Pottery Barn Kids site. The only thing we'll do to the house initially is paint the kids' rooms. Ben has finally settled on a sports motif and a color scheme. He told me he wanted me to paint a world map. I told him we'll put up maps in the guest room/school room and that helped him move past that idea.

I refuse to paint a room pink so Kyri and I have come to agreement on light green walls with pink and lavender accents. She wanted princesses until she saw flowers on the Pottery Barn site. Taste won out. Yay!

Meanwhile I've packed two boxes and donated five bags of things so far. We're filling the dumpster too.

We had a vacation planned with friends before any of this came up. I'm glad the vacation rental is nearly paid for and that we'll have one last getaway. Homeownership looks costly.

Glad Kyrie is pleased with your compromise. When we found out we were having a girl, I struggled with the decorating because I didn't want pink or princess - that severely limited our options. We, too, went with flowers, and McKenzie loves it!

it *is* costly, but worth it! of course your kids eventually settle on good taste -- they're *your* kids! ;-)

Agreed. It is costly, but for a family of five it seems to be a must. Congratulations.

If you can get Miller Paint or Devine Paint, it is so much better quality. It goes on easier, so even though it is more expensive, it doesn't drip and drabble all over the place and you use less. We are very happy with it. Also go to a paint store (if you can't go to a Miller store in Portland) and see if you can get on their mailing list or whatever it takes to get the discount. You should never pay the shelf price for paint at a paint store.

It looks like at least some Fred Meyer stores carry Miller paint, there are Miller stores in Puyallup and Tacoma, BJ's Paint'n Place in Tumwater carries Devine paint and Northwest Architectural in Tacoma carries both Miller and Devine.

Kyrie will be so glad in the long term. I didn't mind the butterfly and flower wallpaper and pink celing as a child, but as a teenager I was really wishing it was blue or green with less flowers.

Lauren's room is khaki with green accents. Once we move to a big girl bed I'm not sure what direction we'll go, but one things for certain the walls won't be pink.
