Nearly two weeks ago I delivered a child. In a nice warm room with a queen-sized bed and a hot-tub. I was supported by two accomplished midwives, my mom, and a pro of a husband. I drank electrolytes and ate energy bars. And childbirth was hard.
Two thousand years ago Mary got to ride on a donkey all day and then labor in a stable. Surrounded by cows, sheep, pigs, horses and chickens. The temperature probably wasn't a comfortable 72. No hot tub. Did she have a midwife? Or just an inexperienced husband? And did she question why she said "yes" to that angel anyway?
I'm really grateful to Jesus for his sacrifice. But this Christmas, I'm very thankful that Mary said "yes."
