The Birthday

We have a drama queen. And she was firmly committed to the idea that her birthday was about her getting her every little desire. She did not feel that birthday girls need to nap; she did not believe one has to obey their mother on one's birthday; she expected the world to truly and completely revolve around her. In this, she may have been disappointed. I'm still exhausted from yesterday.

Her brother, meanwhile, wanted to make her day as wonderful as possible. He took his dad shopping for her and had very good ideas of things she would like. And then he insisted that her presents be wrapped; gift bags are not good enough. He was thoroughly committed to her happiness in ways that warmed his mom's heart.

Kyri had a lovely birthday with wonderful presents (she is currently wearing a princess dress, tiara, and high heels) and had a nice date with her daddy in the late afternoon after she had finally taken a nap. She enjoyed her smoothie. She had a lovely dinner and we found something to put a candle in, even though we are having cake this weekend when her grandparents come to celebrate with her again.

But this morning when she told me it was her birthday again, I assured her that it was NOT. It is over and we can stop the tears whenever I ask her to do something she would prefer not to.

er, It's only when we get old do we celebrate for a week solid...

p.s. If your baby has hair like that pineapple over in the sidebar, I will laugh. =)
