Bored with Domestic Duties

from the mom

Our homily yesterday was about being obedient in the essentials. Just putting dinner on the table and taking care of your kids if you're a mom; being a good student if you're in school, being a good employee. It was a little more complicated than that but it was about obedience to the place you are at in life and was good for me to hear.

I love to cook. I usually take great pride in meal planning, grocery planning and meal preparation. But right now I'm bored of it. For the last couple of weeks, I go to the grocery store when there is nothing to eat in the house. I plan one or two meals at a time (which is horribly inefficient). I put off making dinner until it is absolutely obvious that no cook/housecleaner is going to show up on our door step offering to help. I suppose being sick is an excuse but it started before that.

I want to trade jobs with M for a week. He isn't interested. So I guess....Faithfulness in the essentials. In heaven, I won't have to cook.

Cooking bores me for the most part as well. My general rule of thumb for grocery shopping is not to buy anything that can't be ready to eat in less than ten minutes.

Re your comment on my last post, I can't believe M was rooting for the Pats?! He's from NY, for crying out loud!

You know how I feel about cooking....BLAH! It makes me feel sort of unwomanly, but...whatya gonna do, right?

What works for me is trying out a new recipe with a new ingredient--this week's shrimp fettuccini alfredo is a product of that, as well as the lentil and sausage soup coming up this weekend. :)

BTW, it had never really occured to me that there won't be cooking in heaven, but that is a wonderful thing to consider. :)

Sean, I've hated the Giants ever since they beat the Bills in SB XXV.
