Journey Into Lent

from the mom

Today begins our journey into Lent with Ash Wednesday. It is a strict fasting day in the church, except for those of us with specific reasons not to. It's been 5 years since I last observed a strict fast; I've been either pregnant or nursing every Lenten season since. But there are other disciplines I am observing during this special season of reflection.

Rachelle,

Here's a link to a site that might help give you some ideas for Lenten activities with the kids. I've used it before and really like it.

Lent crept up on me this year. Usually I'm very aware that it's coming, and very aware of Ash Wednesday (this year was my first year to fast in two years). But life was busy, and I just stuck the observance into my daily routine. For me, I think that was the best that could happen. It's a part of life instead of a Great Big Spiritual Project that I have to do the right way.

I still don't like Lent. But I love having gone through it.
