Random Things

from the mom

  • I'm going to miss living in an environment where the floors and bathrooms get cleaned every day. But we have to stay home now.

  • This a.m.:

Mom: Do you like toys, Ben?

    Ben: I LOVE toys.

  • This week I asked where Ben's friend Andrew had gone. Andrew was a classmate of Ben's last year who was in a wheelchair, used a breathing tube, and wore a helmet and broke into the best smile whenever he saw Ben. We've missed him.

One of his teachers responded: "He was adopted by a family some distance away."

"Adopted?" I asked. "He didn't have family." I was incredulous.

"Oh his parents were military at Ft. Lewis and were involved in his life for awhile. But then they were transferred and they just left him." At this point, I started tearing up. How do you just move away and leave your child?

Ben has a blind classmate this year and Ben talks about him a lot. I don't think he realizes he's blind and I'm glad. I'm so happy he is being exposed to differences this young. Maybe he won't be as awkward around them later in life like I am.
