Adventures in Brain Loss

from the mom

At some point last week I went to charge the cell phone and discovered the charger missing. We have a car charger, only Ben conducted a physics experiment on the cigarette lighter and discovered that indeed sticking a penny in it does indeed eliminate its ability to function. So the car charger is useless to us. I turned the house upside down, searched our luggage and concluded that it was last seen somewhere in New England.

Friends let us borrow their charger so we had a little charge to get us through when we were away last week.

I happily found one on Craig's List yesterday and went to pick it up. And stood in strangers' home while they went through every drawer and cupboard trying to find the charger. They assumed I wanted the car charger. They concluded by taking my number in case they find it. So still no way to contact the long distance world.

In the process of going to pick it up, I went to the grocery store to pick up a few things and get the $10 cash I needed to get the charger. M and I have removed charge cards from our wallet until a sunnier day when we can afford to live so carefree again. Apparently I had a brain freeze and punched in the wrong pin no. Several times. Until my card was no longer valid. I had no cash, no check book, no credit cards. Completely humiliated, Ben and I exited the store and went to the ATM where I was told my card was no longer authorized. Fortunately, our savings is at a different bank and so we went there and then returned for our groceries. Today I have to try and get my ATM/Debit card back in use.

That sort of thing happens to everybody... but it's so much preferable to read it on somebody else's blog than go through it yourself. :)

Man Rachelle, that's rough! Just one little thought- you can probably get your car charger back in service simply by locating the fuse box in your car and replacing the one powering the 12v outlet (cigarette lighter). The owner's manual should show you where it is and have a chart identifying each fuse. Should only cost a few cents, too!

Thanks Sean! If that works I may return the $29.99 charger I bought today. -rlr
