Revisiting Old Nightmares and Fun Firsts

from the mom

Ben fell asleep late for his nap yesterday and woke up 45 minutes later with croup. His breathing was so labored he was terrified and wasn't talking. My mom has been visiting and she was helping; even with that I called M and had him hurry home. Of course this all started at 5pm right as his doctor's office closed. I talked to an on-call doctor who assured me that we "knew what we were doing" and that we could determine if we needed to go to ER. I wasn't so confident but after a round of inhalers and some homeopathics, he sounded a little better. He didn't talk though until his Dad offered to play Madden Football (X-Box) with him. Then he perked up and sounded much better.

The night was long but we did get some sleep. Today he is coughing constantly and has no appetite but he feels good enough to play games, read books, and practice his spelling.

Meanwhile, his sister has officially started crawling. At 9 1/2 months, she is about 3 weeks younger than Ben was when he started crawling. She weighs 19 1/2 lbs; Ben had hit that by 7 months. M is working from home for a bit to be certain Ben doesn't need to go in to the doctor; during breaks he has installed a stair gate and lowered Kyri's crib mattress. We found her standing at the rail when she supposed to be napping and she was a little too close to toppling over the edge.

Sorry to hear about Ben:( no fun. Hurray for Kyri and crawling! Loved the little video of Kyri standing in her bed, such a cutie.

We went through many breathing adventures with Stuart. Now that he's older, we've had hardly any troubles. Maybe as Ben's airways get larger, you'll have fewer scares. Yay M, the on-the-spot dad!

Glad to hear that Kyri is keeping up her drive to accomplish life goals early. :)

Poor Ben! I'm glad you're feeling better. I've never had the croup, but my Mommy says it's not nice at all. I've also never crawled before, but Mommy says I will some day. She says big girls learn to crawl... Good job Kyri! I can't wait to meet you both next month. Love, Lauren

I hope that since your post that Ben is feeling like his old self. Croup and asthma: scary not being able to breath.
Cute Kyri: you will soon be walking and running and Mom and Dad will be running too!
