from the mom
I had an email this week from a friend Anna from Portland who lived in NYC until recently and now lives in Boston. She is an adventurous person, a dancer who has earned her living as a carriage peddler in Central Park (you know those really fit people who ride a bike with people in a carriage on the back), a tour guide for junior high and high school field trips to NY and DC, a server for a caterer (at events with the former presidents, GHW Bush (a really nice man who remembers former servers he's encountered at other functions and says "hi") and Bill Clinton, and has served at the Clinton's home for a fundraiser for Hilary's presidential run back in 2004 (she WON'T be voting for her). She currently flies with Jet Blue as a flight attendant. Anna did a lovely favor for me several years ago when our friends Will and Christian moved to THE CITY from Texas. I asked if she would meet them for coffee and help orient them a little bit and be a friendly face. She did, they hit it off and now my friends from different areas of my life are friends with each other.
Ok, back to the email....
She said she was in Portland with Christian whose NYC apartment was flooded and unlivable. En route she had been in NYC and called to see if Will and Christian could get together. She heard their tale of woe and offered to take the pregnant (and now homeless) Christian to the Portland suburbs. Christian (also very adventurous) grabbed some things and met her at the airport.
I emailed back that I had an early morning chiropracter appointment in Portland Thursday. M was keeping the kids in the morning so I didn't have to lift them after seeing the chiropracter. Could we meet for a quick breakfast after my appointment?
So Thursday at 5:30am I hit the road, saw the chiropracter at 8:30 and had a fun hour with Christian and Anna before driving home. We had a great time and I am feeling a whole lot better about our property manager.

Did it remind you of the time that Dana, Jonathan and I got stuck in Portland and you guys came down to visit us for dinner? I love it when things happen like that... wish we had a reason to be stuck in Portland for dinner so we could see you guys again.
