Fun with Frog and Toad

from the mom

Ben was a babe in arms when I tried to read him storybooks. He preferred the non-sensical books produced for young babes/toddlers. I wanted to get to Little House on the Prairie and Charlotte's Web.

Recently he started enjoying Frog and Toad stories. He likes to read the first two (Spring and The Story) over and over again. He likes it because Toad says, "Blah," in Spring. He reads that part for me. The Story has him laughing uncontrollably as soon as we get to the page where Toad stands on his head to try to think of a story. By the time he pours water over his head to try and think of a story Ben is nearly rolling with laughter. It is such a delight. He also knows the story so well he will fill in words for me. Not only is it fun, but it demonstrates how far his verbal abilities have come in the last 4 months.

And I'm relieved to finally be past the Dr. Seuss stage.

Hey, I'm significantly older than Ben and I still enjoy a good Dr. Suess story; why are you glad you're over it?!

I loved Frog and Toad books when I was little. I'm so glad Ben is enjoying them. :) Has he read Mike Mulligan and His Steam Shovel?

That must be so fun to watch Ben enjoy the stories you read to him!

Dr. Seuss is good poetry. I go through poetry phases, usually when I'm really depressed. However, I'm a story person and most toddler books are about language more than story. -rlr
