from the mom
Monday we drove down to Portland to catch up with some friends who were visiting family there. I needed help and my mom goes through Ben and Kyri-deprivation frequently so we solved both problems by bringing her up on AmTrak to meet us there. We met about noon, grabbed some lunch and then went to the incredible play structure at Washington Park. Ben played for about 3 hours while I caught up with my friend Anna P. who works for Jet Blue and lives in New York and soon, Boston. She brought her niece and nephew and we had a nice time.
Then we headed to see Anna Y., her twins, and her family. On the way there we heard a pop and both my mom and I checked the rear-view mirror because we thought we must have hit something in the road. We didn't see anything and didn't worry about it. Just as we pulled in front of the Gross house, the driver behind me rolled down his window and told me I had a flat. It was after 7pm and everything was closed. I called AAAand they came and changed the flat. A friend gave my mom a ride to the airport to catch her ride home with my dad driving the airport shuttle. Our donut couldn't be driven on the freeway and so we borrowed a car and made it home.
The next morning M was up at 5am and off to Portland where he had the car to Les Schwab twenty minutes before they opened. Proving they deserve those customer-service awards, they took care of him early and had him on the road with a no-charge fixed tire at 8:05 (five minutes after they technically open). Now we'll see if he lets us go to Portland without him again.
