from Ben
Yesterday I was left alone with Kyri for 45 minutes when Mom went to get the mail. I don't think it was any big deal but Mom disagrees. She says I showed great responsibility in taking care of Kyri and giving her toys. She also told me she wishes I had listened and showed a little concern when she asked me to unlock the door for her.
I hate to be petty but what she said was "Open the door." And the door is too difficult for me to open. I've heard her tell people this is a good thing because it prevents me from going to the park by myself. So I tried to open the door for her, but when it wasn't working out, I just played my DVD and gave Kyri a fire engine when she got fussy. Mom appeared at the back deck door (quite a climb) and asked me to open that door too. She did ask me to turn the lock but I couldn't reach it.
Finally some man let mom in the house and she said, "Oh thank goodness. My babies are alright." She has one baby and I'm a pretty big boy.
She also added: "Daddy is right. His house key does not work."

Good job, Ben! Nothing like toys to keep the babies happy.
And for Mom, may I suggest a combination lock box with a working key inside? It's a very comforting thing to have.
LOL! That reminds me of a time when I was about 10 and my parents were just beginning to rely on me to babysit my younger sibs. They went on a short date one night and told me to pretend like I was going to sleep so my brother (7 years younger and with whom I shared a room) would go to sleep without a fuss, and then I could get up after he fell asleep and read or do whatever until they got home. Unfortunately, I did such a good job of pretending that I actually fell asleep myself. When they got home, they didn't have a key but somehow got a ladder, climbed up to my second-story window, and knocked to try to rouse me. Ironically, I never woke up, but my 3-year-old brother finally did, and they coaxed him downstairs to let them in.
Good for Ben! Even if he can't unlock doors, at least he takes good care of himself and his sister!
This is a pretty funny post, you know. I haven't locked the kids inside the house yet, although I did once wake up from a nap to discover that 3- and 2-year-old A&S went for a walk down the street by themselves.

Many, yes many, years ago at a party a child got locked in the bathroom. We had to take the door off the hinges to get to him and he wasn't calm like Ben. Ben: 50% right is still pretty good at your age. R: glad it ended so well.
