Home Again, Home Again

from the mom

We arrived home late last night (11pm) after a delayed flight and an inopportune diaper as we finally had luggage and the car and were ready to depart on the drive home.

We had turned down the heat and hot water before leaving. This was before the winter storm was predicted to hit. So there was snow on the ground and it was 27 degrees and the house was in the upper 40s. Kyri was having trouble with a cold anyway and even being outside with her head covered I could hear her gasping. It didn't stop in our house. So I piled a few blankets on top of us both and fed her and then she slept between M and I last night. Nearly 12 hours later the house is now 70 degrees but still has that chill from being so cold for so long. I'm just about brave enough to try a shower and the steam will be good for warming one room.
Ben turned 3 while we were away. He had a "party" at McDonalds in Ashburn with a few little friends from our Virginia days. He had a wonderful time. He likes to start counting with four. Everything is "Four, five, six, go!" He also thinks that all television is "football." So whenever he turns the television on he says, "Football." This sounds very much like "fruit bowl" which is one of his favorite books. You have to be able to see which he is referring to, though they do sound slightly different.

Our flight was delayed over an hour and when we finally boarded (at 6:15pm) Ben crawled into the window seat gratefully. He had missed a nap and M located a pillow which I put against the window. He was out long before we even took off. So M and I watched a movie on the digeplayer (we rented from Alaska Airlines) while Ben slept for two hours. Then he took over. He loves these things. He watched a few music videos, some cartoons, and then Ice Age 2. The man in front turned around a few times when Ben laughed and told us what a great sound that was.

Kyri had a tough descent. I could not convince her that if she nursed or sucked on her passy that her ears would feel better. It was the first time she wasn't sleeping on take-off or landing on our trip and she didn't like it much. I calmed her as best as I could but she is glad to be on the ground for now.

I had some kind of freaky sinus migraine on the left side of my head when we took off. Fortunately I had given some Advil sinus pills to a friend on the flight for her cold. I had M go and wake her up to get some of them back. I've never had sinus issues and I have new sympathy for those who do.

Kyri is either sick or suffering post-flight trauma today. M came home early to take turns holding her.

Check out the sidebar for pictures from M's side of the trip.

Poor Kyri and her cold:( I'm getting over one myself, no fun at all!

re: M's case...great pics/coverage but it was really weird to be listening to my morning NPR that day and hear Nina Totenburg (sp?) discussing M's case!! But cool, too! Were any of M's VA former co-workers there?
