The Rescue

from Ben's mom

We had one of those moments of sheer parental panic yesterday. Ben was playing on our bed when he slid down with his legs between the slats. The problem is that he couldn't get them back out again and the pressure on his legs was very painful. So he and I both panicked. I tried getting him out a number of ways but I needed to support his weight while doing it. Not so easy. I finally broke down and grabbed the nearby cell phone and called M at work. He dropped everything and made it home in record time, encountering no cops on the way (apparently). With two of us, he slicked his legs up with baby oil and I held him up while he forced first one through, and then another.

In the midst of the crisis, Ben calmed down and folded his little hands around the slats. This is his signal that it is time to pray. I asked if he wanted to ask Jesus for some help and he indicated he did. After that, he remained calm the rest of the time and Daddy came and was the answer to our prayers.

I was thankful that M only works 15 minutes away (or 11 yesterday) and that he didn't think I was crazy for calling him to help. He wouldn't even take time to change his clothes to avoid getting oil on them (he didn't anyway). He did however take a photo with the camera that was right there. I may post it later but Ben and I aren't so fond of the memories right now.

I'm glad Ben's okay! Scary parent moment!! I know we'll all experience those, too, but I'm dreading when they will happen! That has to be the worst thing - to see your child frightened and in pain.

Goodness! That's scary - so glad that it all turned out ok... and that little Ben is learning where to turn!
