Mom and Dad decided to get real adventuresome and do exciting stuff yesterday. I really didn't know what hit but we had fun. We jumped in the car (after a lazy morning with my favorite breakfast-pancakes) and Dad told me it would be a good idea to take a nap. So I did. When I woke up it was lunch time and we ate outside on a bench. There were some black birds that really seemed to want my lunch and they hopped around and made me laugh. Then we went to the zoo. Now, when Mom and Dad talk about the zoo, they tell people about the cool giraffes and the the big elephants. I liked the gorillas and orangutans but mostly, I just liked finding rocks and sticks and running on the cool trails from Daddy. Oh, and there was a really fun slide in a rock and a water fountain that was just my size. We walked and walked and walked and finally my legs wouldn't work anymore and I just stopped. Fortunately Dad carried me.

Then we went to a place where there were a lot of boats and people. Mom called it Ballard Locks. We saw some fish too. Dad let me throw a few rocks which was the best part.
I thought it had been a full day and we couldn't possibly do more. Dad put me in my pajamas (my really warm ones) and then he put my shoes and jacket on too. I knew something was up then. Then we went to where there were tons of people and lots of kids playing with big balls. Dad and I played a little football and there was music. My favorite part was when some people jumped out of an airplane and came flying right by where we sat. People said, "Oooh, that was close!" and Mom said they were showing off. I thought they should have had a few more jump.
Mom kept talking about "a big noise" and reminding me not to be worried when it came. Finally they turned off the lights and then the fireworks started. I wasn't sure I liked them and I was so tired I thought I might cry. So I turned over on Dad and went to sleep. That's all I remember.

Ben,
I really missed you last night while I watched fireworks out the living room window and talked to Uncle Mark on the phone. I always thought our house was the perfect place for you on 4th of July, as you can watch the beautiful fireworks without hearing the loud noises. But then Independence Day needs to be closer to a weekend so you can come down. Maybe next year!
Love you,
Grammy
