Hey There Baby!

from Ben's mom

We met with a midwife today and really liked her and the experience. First the office had dim lighting with water, an apple, and herbal tea all offered to us. And there were toys and books for Ben, so he played quietly in the room while the three of us talked. The midwife (Carolee) is a mom herself, so I will be seeing the other midwife (Candace) too. Either one may be present at delivery. We really liked her.... She was very calming. My favorite quote: "No one should have to have their first baby." Thus she soothed many of my woes about the second time around.

We were able to hear the heartbeat. We heard Ben's at 11 weeks and so I was just a little nervous when she had trouble finding it. (We're 13 weeks.) But once she did, it was strong and fast. The baby kept moving, so she had to follow him/her around and she said we had an active one. Ben was mesmerized and waved to the baby.

Now we're really exciting. With Ben, we both found ourselves getting really emotional. At least one of us cried. This time we were more prepared and the emotion was more excitement. And enjoying watching Ben be stunned at that sound.

Very fun!

We had our second (third?) visit yesterday and heard the heart beating again. It's just a comforting sound that assures everything is still going great!

Very fun that Ben got to hear it too!

A&S were with me when the midwife found the heartbeat the first time. I didn't expect them to care. Instead, they beamed and were absolutely enthralled. It adds a great deal of excitement to New Baby when you have little ones anticipating it, too! Second-time pregnancy may not be much fun, but isn't the anticipation much richer?
