from Ben's mom
Yesterday Ben and I toured The Birthing Inn in Tacoma. It is a free-standing birth center and beautiful. It looks like a hotel, with a queen-size bed and some kind of tub in each room. I came home and told M that I really wanted to deliver there.
The down-side is that I remember Ben's birth very well. Too well. And if we get another like it, I will have to be transported by ambulance to a nearby hospital. Delivering at The Birthing Inn requires I go completely natural, with no epidural or narcotic backup. But my options there (within a natural context) are limitless. And there are basically no rules. I can have candles, music, etc.... And it costs less than half of the same stay at the local hospital with no interventions. Since we get to foot most of the bill, I am doubly motivated to be tough and go all natural.
On another note, I discovered that Trader Joes makes a B-6/Folic Acid/B-12 supplement that is a tiny little dissolvable pill that goes under your tongue. Perfect for a vegetarian in her first trimester who can barely stomach food and certainly can't manage to swallow prenatal vitamins (which would choke a horse.) And the chewables make me sick. I actually think I might be feeling a little better after starting the supplement too. I'm pretty proud of my cravings. I think things like, "I need to steam some broccoli. I must have broccoli."

First off, congratulations on your new little one!!!!! Second, we'll be praying for an easier pregnancy and delivery this time around. Lord willing, I'd like to go natural for our second when the time comes...
Oooh, that sounds nice. I hope you can do it! And hey, an ambulance ride during delivery isn't so bad. They have a very even ride. :-P (On the flip side, ambulances are expensive.)
I am so not looking forward to finding a place to deliver whenever the next time around comes--trying to do VBAC seriously limits options.
Oh. Wow, Rachelle. You have me totally impressed. =D More power to ya!
On the subject of vits, very curious about the ones you found. I went with some horsepills and promptly gave up after they came right back up (twice) in an unpleasant manner. I think that's cruelty to pregnant women.
Q of C--Thanks for the encouragement. An ambulance ride sounds awful to me. At this point, we are having a baby instead of buying a house; what's an extra couple thousand for an exciting ride?
A-Now that you have less than 2 weeks, here is a local birthing center: http://www.birthcenters.org/fabc/featuredbc/va-bcwh.php
C-I never kept any prenatals down. Even the chewables are gross. The Trader Joe's pills are GREAT. My mom goes there frequently; you should ask her to bring you back some.
Thanks! I just e-mailed your mom.
