Ben's Chores

from Ben's mom

Ben has picked up a few responsibilities around the house. Some we've asked him to take on; one he has decided to take upon himself. He now picks up his toys, though he likes help on this one and lots of encouragement. He likes to help with the dishwasher too and so he is putting his dishes in it with much supervision.

He has decided it is his special task to locate every scrap of paper in the house for use in starting a fire. We have to be very careful about what we leave around (and he is tall enough to pick things off of counters), because it will end up in the fireplace. Receipts, grocery lists, mail.... Much thought goes into where we put paper.

Yesterday Ben spent a lot of time in his sandbox and while I was on the phone and not paying attention, he began to remove the sand from the box. He did kindly offer to help sweep it up again when I told him the sand was supposed to remain in the sandbox. He is getting trained to be a helper.
