The Arrival of September

from Ben's mom

Usually September is my favorite month of the year. I prefer fall clothes to summer clothes, I always loved school, I like autumn scents (pumpkin, cloves, coffee, hot chocolate, wood-burning), I love the nip that starts to come in the air, and well, hey, it's my birth month. So why the trepidation on this first day of September?

Because, I am not ready for the sunny warm weather to end. As I look at the calendar I see the forecast: 9 months of rain and it is just over the horizon. I am not ready for grey and gloomy again. I want crisp sunny days with fall colors and a walk kicking autumn leaves (and not soggy ones). And I'm not ready for the electric bill to begin its escalation into triple digits.

Ready or not, here we go.

I remember when you called that spontaneous picnic in the park that golden day in October so many years ago! That was such fun. Alas, autumn is all too short in the Pacific northwest.

I'm sure having the same thoughts...It seems like summer has only lasted a month, even though it was pretty warm at times...And I'm thinking that it gets shorter the older I get..I crave sunshine...

But now that you've allowed me to voice my sentiments, I must say that my life is pretty wonderful when I see the news each time I open the internet to read your blog and look for those wonderful pictures...I'm in a comfortable place, with food, and water, and all of life's necessities, and all my family members safe and my heart goes out to those in Louisiana and Mississippi.

Funny - I was just thinking "can't wait 'til fall so the electric bill goes down!" That's what we get in the summer here in broiling Sacramento. :-P
