Stretched Very Thin

from Ben's mom

The last couple of days have been a bit rough. Ben has been teething his four eye teeth. When I checked yesterday, three had broken through. The top two came down through his sinuses, creating a lot of discomfort. They look like two tiny icebergs. Ben has not been himself. He fusses a lot, sleeps more in the daytime (but fitfully) and then cries much of the night. Last night was the topper.

I handled the first two nights ok, but last night MJR had a fever, so I had no relief pitcher. (This morning he did help out a bit.) When Ben wanted to wake up at 7:50, I cried. At 9am, we went down for naps. After an hour of decent sleep (finally) I was ready to be a mother again.

I have sworn off all housework beyond absolute necessity (laundry, kitchen). So in the moments when I'm not giving Ben his teething tablets, or comforting him, I'm back working on his long neglected baby scrapbook.

Like his parents, Ben wants nothing more than to sit back and watch a movie when he doesn't feel well. He has made it through the Heffalump movie a few times. I was deeply disturbed when his dad watched a western with him. From the kitchen, I heard the "Pow-pow--pow,pow,pow" of gunfire followed by hysterical laughing. Apparently my son is not the sensitive type. Last night we rented Because of Winn Dixie for Ben. He was tired and we made it less than half-way through but everytime the dog barked, he laughed a deep belly laugh.

Poor little guy. Hope he (and you) feels better soon.

Poor Ben! Poor Rachelle! You are totally doing the right thing in letting the unimportant stuff go for a time. Once you feel in a more rested and energetic frame of mind, you can easily catch up on the housework and the place will be none the worse for wear. Whereas if you tried to do it all now, YOU would be the worse for wear. Hope this stage is of short duration!

Ben needs to be introduced to the Three Stooges :)

Ha! Darren, that thought crossed my mind too. Mommy would probably write it off as senseless glorification of violence, but we all know the 3 Stooges are an important aspect of male development.

There's housework besides dishes and laundry?

I'll try not to think about it.
