The Highs and Lows of Monday

from Ben's mom

The Low: After 2 minutes of not knowing where Ben was, I discovered him and the kitchen covered in Comet cleaner. Panic, smell his breath, whew...nothing ingested. Clothes off, straight to the bathtub. The kitchen floor is clean and I've hidden the cleaner even further from his grasp.

The High: A blog-reader friend who works with MJR volunteered to babysit so that Ben's parents could have a couple of hours alone. We ventured out for dessert and went for a walk along the Port of Olympia in the sunset. It is very different dating someone whom you have a child with. Our conversations are very different from what they were three years ago. It was nice to focus on each other and we are very grateful to Kristen. Ben was back at home showing her his spice jars, oatmeal containers and all the cool things he likes to do. He never cried once which makes doing this again much easier.

It's been the Windex panic for us - twice - I have no clue how the second offense was possible with the cabinet locked. I will never buy red (or as Jeremy sees it, juice-colored) Windex again.

Glad you got to go out - sounds like you hit our old dating haunts. ("lucky")

Good for you to get out! And doesn't it make the evening just glow when you get home and find that your child has enjoyed himself, too? May you eventually get to the point we are -- when our kids ask to go pick up the babysitter and bring her to our house.
