Christmas Eve

from Ben's mom

The Plan:
Visit an elderly care center in the afternoon and watch Ben cheer up lonely residents before moving on to Ft. Lewis where we would share a Christmas Eve service with the troops by invitation of a military chaplain who attends our church. Then we would come home, eat Pumpkin Bisque, and open a few gifts.

Reality:
Ben has been sick all week and we realized that residents didn't need to be exposed and he needed to be home. So we cancelled our plans (except for the Pumpkin Bisque and gifts) and stayed home and read the Christmas story. Then we opened a few gifts. Ben is completely enthralled with wrapping paper and with the bucket of Duplo Legos that are now all over the house. And I'm reminded that our good attempts to give instead of take are like the gifts that Mike and I received from "Ben"--we have nothing to give unless it was given to us first.
