Year Round School is Crazy

Last week was to be our last week of school. A busy schedule and a general unwillingness on my part to push through and get my part done pushed Ben's last three tests to this week. He took two of them today and whether it was exhaustion on his part or his synching with my attitude, he managed some record low grades on both. (And I will confess to not even checking the Roman numeral part of his test because of utter laziness. I am sure he got it right; he is the one tells me what Super Bowl it is.)

I have to write his history final and what is joy to me in September is pure agony in June. So I told him we would get it done Weds.

I realize homeschooling is different than traditionally schooling. But I have several teacher friends counting down the days and they are completely exhausted too. Some of them have signed up to teach summer school and now second-guessed that decision (lunacy).

Life is meant for breaks. Adults need them; kids do too. And if they forget their Roman numerals over the summer, hopefully they are learning other things that are just as important. (We'll be tackling "How to Empty a Dishwasher," "Learn to Ride a Bike," and "How to Remember to Water a Garden.")

Summer. Bring it on.

um, school was made for man, not man for school? I'm pretty sure there is some sort of generic "sabbath" principle in here.

Hurray for summer breaks (and Christmas, and Easter, and Thanksgiving and any other break we jolly well feel like taking!)

I whole-heartedly agree. Although when we lived in the midwest I figured we would take our breaks in April and October, when the weather was nice. Summer breaks are just right for the Northwest, though. And our summer curriculum sounds similar.
