Mike and Everleigh are finally finishing up the flu. They are by no means "well" but Ev slept for a 6-hr stretch last night. At best she had made it 2 hours in the days before.
Kyrie, while still sporting a wicked cough, is a little ball of fire. Keeping her contained to approved activities is a challenge. But put to good use, and she is a wonder.
She brought joy to my heart yesterday when I saw her go and close her father's open dresser drawers and pick up his scattered clothes hangers and go and put them in his closet. After 8+ years of doing this on my own, it is fabulous to have help. Then she took all the washcloths and hand towels out of the linen cupboard and refolded them. (Her way, not mine, but I struggle with organizing the linens so I'm willing to give a little.) Today I started in on teaching her to fold laundry and discovered she has natural talents. I didn't have to teach her much...just be flexible that her methodology is a little different, but fully developed. While we folded she discussed with me her "problem." "I can't sleep at night," she said. This I know about her but having her articulate it was actually refreshing. It helped me be more empathetic instead of feeling like she is intentionally waking me all night long. After 4+ years of that, I'm tired. But this may be a lifelong problem for her; it isn't for me. I'm a lot more sympathetic today.
