I have serious Lenten thoughts but a sick baby and no time to write them. She's down for a nap at the moment and had to share my children's Lenten "journey" thus far.
Last night we had a Shrove Tuesday meal with our home group and a brief teaching time in preparation for Lent. It apparently had an impact because this morning Ben informed me he would be giving up TV for 40 days. (This after he had caught a little already because his "rise at dawn" sister had been sent down to leave her family alone and be quiet for awhile.)
Meanwhile, he and Kyri came to me and told me in all seriousness that Kyrie would be giving up playing for 40 days. At which point, we had a talk about taking on commitments that were in the realm of possibility to keep. I asked that they consider praying and asking God what might be good for them to give up. (As far as I know neither Mike nor I suggested they give anything up at all.)
Kyri came back within minutes to ask to watch a DVD and I said she should ask her brother who had given up TV. He piped up with, "Maybe not TV; I think I'll give up hydrated oils." Sure dude. Whatever.
I will write more about my own Lenten journey but not today. But this article on iPhone Apps and the Old Adam will give you some good thoughts as you contemplate your own journey.
