The Vacation That Was NOT

Mike had a work conference on the Washington Coast this weekend and when I heard about it, I immediately suggested we all go. He agreed and the kids were thrilled, checking out the hotel website. When we arrived yesterday Ben told at least two random people, in the elevator, that it was "our first vacation of 2011." And I quickly realized why we have cut way down on our travel. (Well, ok, besides the mortgage.) Three children in a hotel room is Exhausting. I have bags under my eyes to prove it.

Mike is, of course, working. Which means that I have the delight of taking kids out to meals and for entertainment alone. It is typical January weather at the coast, so it is raining which makes beach excursions not a great idea. We did hit the interpretative center today which was very child-friendly. We spent over an hour there and then, less than an hour later, Ben and Kyri couldn't remember we had gone there.

Fortunately, our room is a wonderful set-up with two queen beds, a fold out single couch, an electric fireplace, eating table, fridge, etc.... The kids are pretty excited about three phones and three tvs. (Really? A phone and tv in the bathroom?)

It has actually been fun and a nice break away from the real world. Not restful but still fun.

Your terminology is wrong, that's all. With kids that age, you don't go on "vacation." You go on "trips." That way you can still have fun without the expectation of getting any rest.

I'm glad you got to get out and go, though.
