Adopt A Grandparent Project

Our friend Christian lives in Dallas, Texas and faithfully heads up this project at Christmas! If you want to be involved, email her at:

I wanted to share with you a community service project that I am helping out with again this year since last year there was such an overwhelming response from you all and the forgotten elderly that you blessed.
My Mary Kay mentor told me about program that she started doing several years ago, and encourages all her unit members to help out. It's called Adopt a Grandparent. Usually any given nursing home will have a fairly large handful of residents who won’t have any visitors at all over the holidays. I am working with The Village at Richardson, a nearby nursing home (that has 220 residents). They’re the ones we worked with last year, and they seem to need it the most. This is the lower-income home, mostly subsidized by the state, and as Emily, the activities director, put it “this nursing home is basically a dumping ground for people until they die. Most here don’t have family, and the ones that do, their family members don’t visit. Period. Not even for Christmas. Some won’t even come to claim the body!”

No doubt, this is exactly where Adopt a Grandparent is needed. So, on Friday, Dec 17th at 2pm I’m hosting a Christmas party at the home; if you live in the area, I would love for you to come and help distribute the baskets and sit and get to know the residents. The gift baskets that have been approved by the PT nurses are $20 each, and it's a tax deductible donation. I’m preparing one for every resident, and the donor's name will be written on an attached card.
Please feel free to call me or email me if you have any questions. Payment options include cash, checks, and credit/debit cards. The goal is to have all the donations in by the end of November in order to have plenty of time to purchase and assemble the baskets.
How many lives would you like to impact this Christmas??
