Near perfection

My morning was nearly perfect. My girls both slept 9 uninterrupted hours last night, leaving me to sleep 8 hours of beautiful deep sleep. When Ev woke me up at 7, I felt rested and after she ate and was playing in bed by her slumbering father, I went downstairs, made the coffee, and put the fridge full of berries (a gift from friends) to good use. I made buttermilk pancakes with berries and whipped cream. We made it to church on time. It was such a wonderful morning. And the rest of the day has been nice too.

But for the pain of others. My cousin and her husband were here for dinner last night, unaware that his brother had drowned a few hours earlier.

It struck me the unfairness of it all. A good day for me. And a really horrible day for others.

At church every week we pray for the Church throughout the world. While we sit in relatively comfortable chairs in a building whose temperature is moderated to be about 70 in all seasons and weather and enjoy all kinds of yummy goodies after church, Christians elsewhere are being tortured and killed in other parts of the world. And each week when we pray, we identify just some of those who died for their faith in the last week.

Most of the time I'm on the nice side of the unfairness of life. My hands feel tied to really help those who are hurting. I do a little here and there. Stand alongside ministries who are working in other parts of the world, send a card to someone who is suffering loss. But it doesn't feel like much. It isn't much.

If you want to help a suffering family, read this. And thanks to Jamie (a friend of a friend) for showing how a stay-at-home mom can offer a tiny little bit of help in times of pain.

Rachelle, I am praying for your cousin's family. And thank you for reposting Jamie's link. The funeral for little Alondra is tomorrow.
