Fortunately Mike is amazing. I married well. He spent the weekend scrubbing walls, cleaning bathrooms, and painting. Oh, and spending money. (Though technically, I probably spent more.)
Mike painted the kids rooms and the fireplace mantel (which was white and all sooty). I stenciled the girls room, with some help from my friend Amy.

I found a lawn mower listed in the classifieds at a local garage sale and Mike arrived at 7:58am, only to watch someone else walking off with it before the sale was even technically open. Fortunately I found one on Craigs List yesterday for $10 from a new homeowner. The previous owner had left it and he gassed it up, and mowed the lawn with it to confirm it worked but only wanted a small amount since he didn't know much about it. It should take us through the summer.

We are tired, Kyri is a little emotional about leaving the only home she's ever known and we still have almost a week until this process is complete. We'll move Saturday and then have two days to clean this place. It doesn't sound fun.

Hang in there and soon you can just relax in your new home! I don't know if you've considered paying someone to clean your old place. We kept our house spotless while it was on the market and were a little insulted when the buyer asked for it to be professionally cleaned as part of the deal. However, it turned out to be a blessing b/c we were so wiped out from moving that we were glad to let someonce else do the final cleaning. (And fortunately the previous owners of our new house left it very clean for us!)
Wow. Almost there. More deep breathing. Took the screens???
You will be so thankful after your first night sleeping in your own home. When you wake up the next am,
take a moment to look around before you get up and just smile.

When we sold our house in California the buyer wanted assurance that we would leave the ceiling fans. We thought it was odd that they wanted that stipulated, as we never thought of taking them. Apparently we were naive! Moving is by far the most stressful thing that our marriage has endured. I HATE it for reasons just like this. LOTS of work. And I've never had to move with kids!! Good luck!
Anna--Next time we are going to write that in the contract. I swore that I would pay to have someone clean this place when we left but we are just too cheap. So maybe it is nice to have that in a contract. (Fortunately our contract specifies we are not responsible for cleaning the carpets or blinds.)
Hilary--Moving with children...Not fun. There are TOYS everywhere right now.
Love the stenciling. Great job! The work will be worth it when you are all moved and realize it's YOURS. Hope you get a little bit of rest in the meantime!
