Day 8

I was reading in Mark 2 about Jesus healing the paralyzed man. What struck me this time is that Jesus' first concern was his spiritual state. He saw sins that needed to be forgiven. But he knew what the people around him saw was a man who couldn't walk.

I couldn't help but think about every prayer group I've ever been part of. We spend far more time praying about Aunt Nina's cancer, Joe's job hunt, and Annie's headaches. We too often neglect to pray for the spiritual needs of the people around us.

Certainly that is true in my life. I focus on the immediate: please, please let me have 5 hours consecutive sleep tonight; please help Ben's lungs to be stronger, etc.... And really at the end of the day God's power is this. We are sinners. We can't save ourselves. We need God's forgiveness more than anything.

I'm glad, too, that you're snatching insights and sharing them with us every day. This one is particularly valuable.
