Beds

Saturday I found a great bed at a garage sale and so Mike picked it up and set it up. Ben was pleasantly preoccupied on the computer and not interested in coming down to see the process. Kyri was right there, very excited to get a "big girl bed." Because of the nature and quality of the beds, we gave her Ben's old one (white frame, one mattress, and thus lower to the ground) and gave him the new one (wood and iron, two mattresses). She wanted to put her blanket and pillow (that we had been saving for the occasion) on the bed by herself.

When we brought Ben down to see his new bed, he nearly cried. "I don't want a new bed. I like my bed." And it was with some prodding and a promise that he would have good dreams there, that he was willing to sleep in it last night and again tonight.

Kyri made it ten minutes last night in the bed before she decided she wanted her crib. I thought she would stick with that for awhile but tonight she told her dad she wanted to try the new one. So there she sleeps. Prior to sleeping, she apparently was a chatterbox, and Ben came to ask us to please make her stop talking to him so he could sleep.

Sharing a room is a temporary arrangement but we have guests coming to help after the baby is born and needed two beds in that room that they can use, so we probably won't move her bed up to her room until February when things have settled down. And though the plan is for her to share her room with her sister, we won't know exactly how that will work out for awhile yet. That was our plan with Ben and Kyri originally (so we could have a guest room) and eventually the need for sleep became more important and we split them up. And once again, they're together, and we'll see how that goes.

A sister! How cool! I was remembering the other day one point in my life when I was about four or so, when my second sister was three, and the next two brothers were still in cribs. We all shared a room, Kate and me on twin beds and the boys in cribs - what fun times those were, I remember! I wonder what my parents thought of the noise we must have made, though...
