The Winner is...

Yesterday Mike spoke at a huge picnic in a rural area about an hour and a half from us. The lady started it as a yearly family reunion and then started inviting her friends and neighbors and then brought in guest speakers to talk about freedom and other causes. There were more than 200 people there. It was pretty amazing.

There was a huge kids slide which Ben enjoyed immensely. Kyri thought it was a little too scary. The kids were enthralled with the roasting pig on the spit (which made the mom gravitate in another direction). The volume of food was overwhelming and there were volleyball nets, horseshoes, and a miked platform for speakers. Mike gave a short 10-minute speech which was very well received. The kids were too busy going "Daddy, daddy" so I took them on a walk and didn't get to hear it.

We were getting ready to leave for the day when a watermelon-eating contest for 6 and under was announced. I was a little further out but Mike and Ben were standing right there and they said they needed one more person. Mike asked Ben if he wanted to try and eat some watermelon "fast." Ben was all for it. I arrived just as the buzzer ended and the judge was inspecting the watermelon. I just got to catch...."And the winner is...Ben!" Ben thrust his hands in the hair in a Rocky victory cheer and said "YAY!" He came home with a few kiddie prizes and feeling pretty good about his win. Even more amusing was that he wanted to finish up his watermelon.
