One of the the nicest things about our getaway was a chance to take our kids in a pool several times. They both insist they do not want to learn to swim. I loved the water as a kid and I'm just baffled at their hardcore resistance to being in the water. We made three trips to the pool during our time there and it gave Ben a chance to warm up to the idea of swimming lessons. We even got him to swim with arm floaters by himself. Kyri preferred to stay on the edge of the pool tossing us balls and "noodles" but she came in with us for brief periods of time and she wanted to go "to the swimming pool" whenever the opportunity was presented.

Our outing came with free babysitting but I'm not very good at leaving my kids. Especially in daycare situations. But after an afternoon where Mike had been working or with friends and I needed a break I finally took them to daycare where they didn't even look back to say "goodbye." When Mike discovered what I had done, he went to check on them and they didn't pay him any attention either. So we enjoyed dinner without them (and they much preferred macaroni and cheese to the adult fare we had) and I tried not to think of the numerous diseases they were being exposed to.

When we checked out of the hotel on Friday, we had a gourmet sack lunch to take with us and so we went a few miles down the road and hiked up
Beacon Rock. People we met were pretty amazed to see our kids making the hike which is a mile straight up. They did great but you can tell from these pictures that we had some tired people at the end. And we were all happy to eat our big sack lunches. Ben was so tired and hungry he couldn't even talk and after lunch we got in the car and both kids fell asleep instantly.

And then there is the picture of the mom for those friends who want to see how "big" I am. Big. Very very big.
