We braved the crowds and joined friends to watch fireworks Saturday night. When they started Kyri was sitting on Mike's lap. She clapped his hands over her ears. He kept asking if her she was alright and she would nod "yes." Finally I noticed tears in her eyes. After we talked about it: "too scary, too loud" and agreed that they were beautiful, she did a little better. She was exhausted too.
While I was in Hawaii, Kyri picked up an expression that is used repeatedly and means a variety of things. Everything is "nice." She uses to mean she understands, likes something, or just to acknowledge she has heard us. It is pretty cute coming from a 2-year old.
Ben woke up with croup yesterday morning and proceeded to vomit from coughing throughout the morning. He has now progressed into restrictive airways following the normal trajectory of "Ben disease." Only we had such a nice long break from it all we had hoped he had outgrown it entirely. He has watched a lot of Disney movies and cartoons which takes his mind off his troubles. He has shown less fear this time, which is helpful. But we are having to keep a close eye on him and keep giving him Albuterol. Mike slept on the couch last night so he could hear him. And Ben has just informed me has helped himself to cough medicine so I'm off to supervise a little better.

I am so sorry Ben isn't feeling well again. I still think he will grow out of it, but I guess not yet. Big kiss kiddo.

Excessive use of the word nice always makes me think of Henry Tilney's diatribe on the word in Northanger Abbey. Your kids always seem so precocious!
