There's Nothing Like My Girl

I was delighted when Kyrie wanted to use the potty at barely 2. I thought perhaps it was payback for Ben. And all was well for awhile. She had more accidents than I expected but she properly remorseful with an "Oh no Mommy." And all was forgiven and we went on.

However, a few months later she changed her mind about being potty-trained and decided to not really care about using the toilet. We have had hundreds of little talks along the lines of "Do you want to wear panties or diapers?" And usually she would go with the former. Then a few weeks ago, she decided she really did want to wear diapers. I fought it. Yesterday, after weeks of going through four and five pairs of underwear a day I decided I agreed with her. I reconciled myself to it being a while yet.

And today she woke up and dressed in her panties and has been using the potty ever since. We'll see what tomorrow holds.

At lunch today I caught that Kyri saw me return the kitchen shears to their rightful spot. I wondered if it would be a problem and then forgot about it. I was upstairs working when she woke up from her nap and sent her down to play with Ben. A short time later, I descended the stairs to see long strands of brown hair scattered in the living room and the kitchen. It didn't take too long for me to put it together. Ben calmly explained that she'd given herself a haircut. (He rarely participates in her adventures but finds it amusing and doesn't attempt to stop her either.)

I surveyed the damage and fortunately she has a lot of hair and it isn't too obvious. She just looks a little layered. Her shirt was covered in hair so I took it off, and sent her upstairs to find a new one while I swept and vacuumed up hair.

I came up the stairs to find her still topless with nailpolish on her toes, tummy, and the bathroom floor. "Painting," she says. The nailpolish is kept under childproof lock along with the cleaning supplies. I checked and she had not only gotten it out, but put it carefully back (in a zip bag) and closed the cupboard up when she was done. This all in about two minutes.

Now I'm attempting to talk her out of cosmetology, at least for the time being. And making sure that we don't have any childproof medicine bottles any lower than 7 feet off the ground.

Oh wow. I don't know whether to laugh or cry with/for you!

Of course, today I took Joshua out in public for the first time in . . . ? And he actually smiled and laughed at me while running away and casually touching everything (with a smile!) that I had told him NOT to touch.

I usually get really tired after reading about Kyri's adventures. I can't imagine living with them. She's such a livewire... but so very cute, too. :)

I really enjoy reading about Kyri's adventures, but since I'm halfway across the country and not standing in the same room at the time of her adventures, I probably should not say that. Just think, though: you'll be in Hawaii soon for a lovely vacation. =)

I remember when my godson pushed a chair from another room, got on the kitchen counter and found his
ear medicine which we had no idea he could reach, much less figure all this out. What a shock when we realize just how much they can do and it comes quickly and out of the blue. Hang in there R. Many more adventures to come. Sorry.
