The midwives who delivered Kyrie were very granola, in fact a little too granola for us. (E.g. My husband is so much more than my "partner" which is a business arrangement rather than a sacramental union and I got very sick of him being referred to that way.) But one thing that has stuck with me was the emphasis that they placed on birth being a "creative" process.
I've thought of that a lot in the last couple of months as it has felt like all the creativity has been sucked out of me. My photo albums have come to a dead stop, blogging has been hard, writing for the Examiner is a chore most days, and I've put the knitting away. And cooking, which is usually a creative activity for me is ugh. And when I feel tough on myself I imagine all the creativity that is going straight into this little wee one (known this week as "the shrimp"). Maybe we'll have a little Jackson Pollack or Madeleine L'Engle. We'll see.
Second trimester begins Monday. My chances of miscarriage slid way down this week and I am hopefully within 3 weeks of feeling much, much better. No weight gain but all my weight has settled into my tummy so I look fat. I have always liked it when at month 5, I finally start to look pregnant vs. fat.

ah yes, the fine line between looking pregnant and fat. That's one we tease Mark about quite a bit... Jk! =)
I'm finally able to catch up on some blogs... and find THIS! Congratulations!! How exciting! :) I hope you indeed feel much, much better very soon.
How fun! I didn't realize you and M. were expecting... congratulations! I'm glad you're feeling better and hope your trip to Hawaii was refreshing. Matt and I are expecting #2, due 12/3. Ah, the second trimester is always SO much nicer than the first...
