Here are details from Sarah:
As some of you may have heard, my brother-in-law, Ash who is 32, is extremely ill and has only the use of 1/2 of his two lungs. He has been this way for many years and with each bout of pneumonia or bronchitis his immune system grows weaker. At the end of March, and under the advice of his doctor, Ash went on full disability. It is hoped that the time off from work will give his body opportunity to rest and recover. If, at the end of the month he is still unwell it is very likely he will have to stay on disability and will lose his job.
Previously it was hoped that Ash could have a lung transplant, but he has been turned down by the LA hospital that specializes in them as he is considered "too high risk". The doctors have said there is really nothing else they can do except treat him with antibiotic each time he gets sick, though over time his body is likely to become immune to antibiotics.
Although we have been praying for years we are especially now praying for a miracle. A friend of my sister and brother-in-law's has organized a 10 day prayer/fast from April 10-19, 2009 for Ash (and my sister and their two little girls, ages 2 1/2 and 1 years old).
