I've been reading to Ben from Laura Ingalls Wilders books in the afternoons. And Mike has been reading to him from C.S. Lewis's classic The Lion, The Witch, and the Wardrobe before bed. We were both very eager to read our favorites to him. It is one of the best things about having a five-year-old.
This week I tried to introduce him to Odyssey. Since he is completely visual, he has a hard time with it. I can relate. I can't listen to people speaking for more than about 8 minutes before getting drowsy. I didn't get a lot out of Odyssey as a child but I remember my brother listening to them. Kyrie shows promise of being a little more balanced. We'll try again in a few weeks and see if he does better listening. I also might try a trick I had to use when listening to college lectures: keep your hands and eyes engaged. I always doodled, made grocery and to-do lists and wrote thank you notes. Since Kyri can't get enough writing/drawing/coloring in, I will sit them down for a art project and try Whit again.
He is very excited about his new subscription to Clubhouse Jr. But nothing makes him happier than a game of Sorry. He plays it solitaire if no one will play with him and it is known to accompany us to church so he can play it with the kids after the service. Since I've played about twelve games in the last week, I'm looking forward to Ben's visit to Grammy. That's where the game-playing gene link is strongest.

Jonathan read through some of the Narnia books to the kids when we were moving from Oregon to North Carolina. It was a great way to keep the "how much longer" questions at bay.
Tell Ben I WILL PLAY WITH HIM! I LOVE games and my significant other won't play with me! :) He says I always win, but that is only becasue I play 3 times as much as he does... it is a vicious circle. While my brother was here we played about 30 games of Settlers of Catan, 3 games of Monopoly and about 5 games of Risk! This is the brother who also used to drag the cd player out to the deck and jump on the trampoline for HOURS while listening to Odyssey. :)
