Today is Ash Wednesday and marks the beginning of a time of contemplation in the lives of liturgical worshipers. The purpose of this time is to eliminate things that distract us from our relationship with God and cause us to replace those distractions with time with Him. This year I've not made strict commitments as much as I've asked God to show me what keeps me from loving Him.
At the end of the Lenten season we celebrate with Easter. But first we have to get through Good Friday. Just as Christ was put on the cross with my sins, so I need to put to death some sins that prevent me from living out my life to the fullest. Lent is the time when I get honest and seek to refocus on the big picture.
I discovered an online devotional for each week of Lent by one of my favorite authors, Vinita Hampton Wright. It is offered in written, audio, or audio/visual format. Follow along if you would like. I'll post the link in my sidebar later but for now, you can go here.
