Ready (Kyri) or Not (her mom)?

from the mom

I always believed after Ben that Kyri would be easy to potty train. And she's been showing potty-training readiness for months now. I've been ignoring it for just as long for several reasons: 1) a hectic schedule that took us out of the house nearly every day; 2) complete and total exhaustion left over from potty-training Ben; 3) a belief that a child is potty-trained when they can go without you. Having to remember to take a child to the bathroom and having to do everything for them does not mean your child is potty-trained. So yeah, ok, I'm lazy.

But this girl doesn't care about any of it. She wants to wear panties. She agreed to pull-ups for awhile (diapers were a no-go). Wednesday, she was wearing her panties and I saw she needed to go. I was feeling bad but the opportunity was there and I had the time (and the need to sit for awhile). I grabbed leftover Halloween candy and sat her down. It took awhile but she was happy to sit and eat candy and have her brother come and tell her she was AMAZING for going on the potty. She did it; we clapped, cheered, wiped, flushed, washed. And I put her in a pull-up and said "no more" for the day. Too sick. Too tired. And then we went to Grammy and Grandpa's house for 4 days and I checked out. (She was too entertained in her environment to worry about it.)

So this morning she got up and removed her pull-up. (If it is the least bit wet, it is OFF.) I asked if she wanted a pull-up or panties. The latter. I forgot about it. I was doing something when I heard her calling me. But I was in a flu-induced fog. Finally she broke through: "MOMMY! Potty!" I ran to her and she had taken off her pants and panties in time but I hadn't made it in time to help. She was greatly distressed as she pointed to the floor.

She's called me and gone twice since then. She had one accident and came to me crying and telling me she hadn't made it. For which I could only commend her. For the most part, she has potty-trained herself. In a day and a half. (Oh and Ben stated today: "Mom, Kyri can go to the potty and she is only 2. But I go EVERYTIME.") Whatever it takes to make yourself feel better buddy.

Now Kyri is potty-training her dolls.

You deserve an easy one after your first, I think. Good job Kyri!

Hey, me too! Daphne is insisting on using the potty, to the extent that she's hardly wet even a diaper in two days. I wasn't all into the idea by any means. Especially since, tonight, I've taken her to the potty FOUR TIMES since she went to bed. I was not ready for this.

I think it should be pointed out that in this area of life women need to give more attention to it than men as a matter of course. Therefore, throughout Ben's lifetime, it will be much less of a hassle for him than it will be for his sister (who holds out longer on road trips, huh?)
