The Celebration

Ben raised the question of a party a few days ago and I thought it would pass. We had a lot to do on Wednesday and we're coming up on a busy weekend. But he continued to talk about Kyri's party yesterday.

So in the early afternoon I searched until I found a cupcake recipe I had most of the ingredients for (and improvised the rest). I told M we were having a party and Ben and I started the two hour process of making cupcakes. Two hours because I was working on potty-training yesterday and we were spending a lot of time in the bathroom. We made a quick call to see if Kyri's best girl friend Jade could make her party.

We waited to see if any packages would arrive for Kyri; she had cards but nothing to open. So her dad made a quick stop for a gift and came home. He and Ben went after pizza, balloons and wrapping paper while I got everything else ready. It became very quiet and I went looking for the birthday girl only to find that she was in the basement by the laundry room and had discovered (up high) her birthday gift.

She had a little meltdown when I wouldn't give it to her but settled down when I told her that indeed this gift would be hers after dinner and when her friend Jade would be there to watch her open it. Knowing there was food and Jade in the works helped ease her mind. She knew it was a special day because she had bathed, had her hair washed, blown dry, and braided, and was wearing her velvety pants.
She enjoyed her birthday pizza, blew the candles out handily on her cupcake, and enjoyed her birthday song. The baby doll was a perfect gift and she has painstakingly cared for her "baby" (she told me her name was Kyri this morning) ever since. The baby Kyri even woke up her Mommy Kyri in the night who in turn woke up her Grammy to ask that I help change the baby's diaper. Oh boy!
She wanted to try co-sleeping, decided it didn't work, and then later in the night informed me that not sleeping with her baby didn't work either. So the baby finished out the night in the bed and once she made this decision everyone slept better. Meanwhile, Ben takes his uncle position very seriously as well and at times has to be reminded to let the baby's mother handle her most of the time.

Wow. What a conscientious little mother!

We're looking forward to doing a little birthday celebration of our own when y'all make it down this way!

Wow! What an adorable little mama! As Darren said, "Oh. That's what most little girls do with dolls." (Our little girls liked animals, but at age 2 couldn't care less about dolls.) I laughed -- sympathetically, of course -- that Kyri woke you up to change the baby's diaper.

She is such a bundle of personality. The world is a better place with Kyri in it!

"Ben and I started the two hour process of making cupcakes." I can totally relate to this!!! I always say that Rachael Ray would do it in "60 minutes" if she had a toddler in tow.

What sweet pictures. I especially love the ones of Mike helping Kyri blow out the candles and the Kryi making sure the baby has her passy. How sweet. :)

How cute! Joe also likes taking care of his baby doll and frequently sniffs its bottom and asks me for a diaper for it. (We've had a comment made to us that Joe's going to start asking to wear dresses if we let him play with dolls.)

so cute, Jade had fun getting to be apart of the party. Though I think she was a bit jealous and we may have to get a doll for her 2 yr old birthday coming up! lol
