Books We Love

Here are more books we have loved recently:

Autumn Acrostic and Winter Acrostic by Steven Schnur and illustrated by Leslie Evans. The illustrations in these books are vivid and rich and Ben quickly learned to read the down word (made from the first letter of the first word in each line) as well as learning about rhyming.

20th Century Children's Poetry Treasury
wtih poems selected by Jack Pelutsky was a great introduction to poetry. Ben would ask me for another poem and we continued with his knowledge of rhyming and expanded his ability to understand images. The illustrations are great for poetry...vague and require the use of imagination.

Little Fur Family by Margaret Wise Brown and illustrated by Garth Williams is a great book for toddlers and young preschoolers. It has a cute story about family and the illustrations will make most of us nostalgic for Laura Ingalls Wilder books. (The same illustrator did this book.)

Alphabet Riddles by Susan Joyce is a fun book for older preschoolers and young grammar school students. There is a different riddle for a word beginning with every letter of the alphabet. Letter clues are provided as well. This book develops reading and analytical skills. Ben has had a good time with it.

Thanks for sharing! I'll have to put those on hold. We got the 50 States book you recommended and I want to buy that one. Meredith really likes it and always asks about different stuff in the book.
