A Strange Rash

from the mom

Kyri developed a mysterious rash a few days ago. It looked like Ben's roseola but there was nothing else to indicate she was sick. I did a lot of research and her symptoms match rubella.

If she does have rubella, this would actually be a blessing. Rubella is a mild childhood disease; often there are no symptoms other than the rash. But it could be dangerous to unborn children and is likely harmful if the pregnant woman is not immune. Thus, rubella is part of the MMR vaccine. I had determined it would be wise for Kyri to get just the rubella vaccine when she was older. The only problem is that the vaccine is known to cause arthritis-like symptoms in about 20% of women.

If she does have the disease, we won't know for certain until we have a titer drawn. But the titer can tell us if she is immune. And if she is, she dealt with this disease the old-fashioned way.

But if you are pregnant or might be pregnant, stay away from my kids (in case Ben may have/get it) for awhile.
